Self-Love Revolution: Transforming Your Relationship with Yourself

Embracing self-love is the ultimate act of empowerment, shielding us from the chaos of the world when we're content and at peace with ourselves. Each and every one of us are unique and awesome, but more often than not, we fail to believe it. Too often, we find ourselves inclined to criticize our incredible selves rather than to uplift and affirm, failing to recognize our own greatness and say, "You've got this because you are truly awesome!" Come alongside me, my truly remarkable friend, and embark on this journey of self-love revolution, where we'll discover how to reshape our connection with ourselves and unleash our full potential to live the life we're truly capable of.

In this blog post I will be covering:

  • How to recognize your uniqueness and avoid the trap of comparison

  • How to immerse yourself in affirmations and replace negative thoughts

  • How to prioritize activities that bring you joy

  • How to implement daily self care

In your own life, it's important to know how spectacular you are.

The Self-Love Journal, designed to empower you on your journey to personal growth and acceptance.

I have always thought that there has to be more to life than just doing what everyone else is doing. I didn’t want to just be clocking in and out of a stale job every day, over and over again, to earn a paycheck that barely covered bills, just to do it all over again next week. I have always dreamed of more. More time with my family. More experiences traveling around the world. More money to give to people in need. Even though I have dreamed of this since I was a little girl, guess what I have done most of my adult life. Clocked in and out of a job every day, over and over again, to earn a paycheck that barely covered my bills, just to do it all over again next week… but why? Because I didn’t believe that I could ever actually reach my goals, my dreams, or my full potential. So where did I have to start? With loving myself. With believing in myself. With knowing that I am capable of more than just settling for what is. I started with self love.

Today you are you, that is truer than true, there is no one alive that is youer than you.

- Dr. Seuss

I love this quote from Dr. Seuss. It is so simple and so so true. You are the only you. That is what makes you unique. No one else in the world has your exact dreams, your exact thoughts, your exact skills. Cherish your uniqueness by giving gratitude for each of your unique attributes. Every day for the next 10 days I want you to focus on one thing thing you like about yourself. For each day, I want you to write in your Self-Love Journal what it is you like about yourself that day. Be specific. Don’t just say “I like my hair”, but write down exactly why you like your hair. What is it about it that you like? How does it make you feel? Why is it unique? It may take you some time to get started. It is hard for most of us to say nice things about ourselves. THIS IS WHY WE NEED TO DO IT! We are amazing and being told to write down 10 things that we like about ourselves should be an easy task, but unfortunately for most of us, it makes us uncomfortable. I want you to change this mindset. One thing I want you to avoid when you are looking at your awesome self in the mirror is comparison. Do not, for goodness sake, do not compare yourself to other people. Comparison is the quickest way to kill your confidence. Focus on what makes you amazing and beautiful and unique, not what someone else has or what someone else looks like.

Comparison is the death of joy.

-Mark Twain

I know, I know. You are probably thinking, “I’m tired of hearing about affirmations”, but seriously, this is the game changer! Immerse yourself in affirmations. Say them in the mirror in the morning. Say them in the shower. Say them when you're driving. Say them before you fall asleep. Reshaping your mindset by consistently repeating the words you most need to hear throughout the day will drastically change the way you live. You can want to be wealthy all day long, but if you are constantly telling yourself that you are not smart enough to have a high paying job, or you don’t deserve to have luxuries, then guess what… you won’t. But if you replace those negative thoughts with positive ones such as: I receive all the good that life has to offer me. I am wiser every day and capable of whatever I want to do in life. You WILL. I have multiple rare health conditions that for years, have been the cause me putting myself down and limiting my own potential. Replacing my negative thoughts surrounding my health has changed the way that I carry myself. It has physically increased my energy levels and lessened the frequency of my flare ups. I used to think and say things out loud to people like: My health sucks. Because of my health, I feel like a grandmother instead of a young mom. I don’t have the energy to do the things I enjoy with my family. Since I can’t do as much as everyone else because of my health, I don’t want to do it at all. I don’t want to hold anyone back, so I just won’t go. Here’s how I replaced those negative, life-draining thoughts with positive, life-giving ones.

My health sucks >> I am grateful for the body I have that allows me to get up each morning

I feel like a grandmother instead of a young mom >> I am youthful and full of life

I don’t have the energy to do the things I enjoy with my family >> My body is strong and incredible and allows me to enjoy life

Since I can’t do as much as everyone else, I don’t want to do it at all >> I am thankful for the amazing things my body allows me to do each day

I don’t want to hold anyone back, so I just won’t go >> I am deeply loved by my family and friends, and I bring joy to them when we do things together.

Discover the power of gratitude and cultivate a mindset of positivity with the Gratitude Journal, guiding you to find joy in the everyday and foster a deeper appreciation for life's blessings.

Avoid the downward spiral. When you find yourself reverting back to self-sabotaging, kick the affirmations into high gear. Here are just a few affirmations you can repeat to yourself throughout each day to improve your confidence and manifest the life you want:

  • I am worthy of and embrace abundant love flowing into my life every single moment.

  • I I am confident in my ability to create the life I want.

  • I attract love, happiness, and fulfillment into my life.

  • My heart is open. Love pours in and out.

  • I am brilliant, bold, and beautiful.

  • I am fearless and excited to try new things.

  • I am a magnet for wealth and abundance.

  • I am unique and incredible.

  • I bring peach and light everywhere I go.

  • I am smart, strong, and successful.

  • I prioritize myself so that I can love others deeply.

  • My mind is a beautiful and peaceful place to be.

Talk to yourself like someone you love.

I am not a morning person. Like, not even a little bit. I have spent most of my life hitting the snooze button so many times until I ‘accidentally’ turn the alarm off and then jump out of bed, already running way behind schedule, yelling at the kids to hurry up because we’re going to be late. Literally, that was my routine pretty much every morning. Despite the chaotic mornings I had grown used to, I knew it wasn't good for me. Or my kids. Or anyone I came into contact with that day because I started my day off with chaos and now I was grumpy. Now days, I love drinking my cup of coffee in the quietness of the morning before my husband and kids start stirring around. Why? Because I prioritize myself in the morning (despite not being a “morning person”). I carve out time, wherever I can, to do things that bring me joy. I enjoy listening to audiobooks. So, I pop my AirPods in and listen to my book while I pick up around the house in the evening. I enjoy nature. So, I sit on our back porch and watch the red birds perch on the fence while my toddlers nap.

Prioritizing activities that bring you joy may look different for you. You may go out to lunch with your girlfriends once a week. You may go for a run each morning or get dressed up for a date night once a month. However it looks for you is perfectly fine. Just don’t ignore it! Don’t ignore what brings you joy because you are busy. Life will always be busy. You must prioritize yourself daily, and start now. If you say, “I’ll focus on myself when my kids are older and I have more time”, you will never make yourself a priority, and therefore, never create the life you want. Forging the life you desire isn't an act of selfishness; it's a recognition of your boundless potential, which sets a powerful example for those around you that joy and fulfillment are within reach for all.

Self-care is how you take your power back.

-Lalah Delia

Now that you have mastered the art of self-love, let’s focus on self-care. I know, you are probably rolling your eyes at the term “self-care” because you have heard it a thousand times are thinking “yeah yeah, I know I know, take a bubble bath, go for a walk, blah blah blah, I don’t have time.”

You are awesome! Say it. Say “I am awesome!” out loud. Repeat it. We have established the importance of loving ourselves and manifesting a beautiful life, but how can we do that if we are not taking care of the person we say we love?

I get it. As a wife and a mom and I want to take care of everyone else in my home first. I have learned though, that I can not give my family my best self, if I don't practice self-care. It has taken me years to realize that I can only make it so far on minimal sleep and junk food while I run around like a crazy person making sure that I have everyone else’s lunch packed, clothes washed, dinner planned, field trip permission slips signed, dogs fed, and all the other things that keep the well-oiled machine called life from running off the tracks and over a cliff. There a so many ways to practice self-care but there are a few areas that are so crucial to operating at your highest level. I like to call these areas the “Nourish and Flourish: Fuel, Sleep, Glow."

Nourish and Flourish #1: Fuel

I forgot to eat. That’s what I used to say all the time. My husband couldn’t understand how in the world a person could be so busy that they just forgot to eat. But I did. All the time. With one of my health conditions, I can't skip meals. I mean I can, but it usually ends with me face planting on the ground at some point during the day. Even without serious health conditions though, our bodies need fuel to function well. Fast food is not fuel. A handful of your kid’s goldfish crackers for breakfast is not fuel. This is where meal planning and my nightly routines help me so much. I know before I go to sleep at night what I will eat for breakfast the next morning. I’m not a big breakfast eater, so it’s usually something small but full of the nutrients I need to give me energy and that won’t leave me crashing in a few hours when all the sugar wears off. If you struggle with this, let’s be honest, we all do, then I can not stress enough the importance of meal planning to avoid skipping meals or grabbing greasy, fast food that does no favors for nourishing the body that you want to carry you into this beautiful new life you are creating for yourself. Just as important as the food you put in your body, so are the drinks you consume. Listen, I love coffee. I have to refrain from drinking it all day because I easily could. Staying hydrated and drinking enough water every single day is enough all by itself to make you feel like a brand new person. Another important part of getting the right fuel is poop. You read that right, you have to poop! Like, regularly. Our gut health is vital to our overall health and it can be the difference in having the energy to participate in the things you enjoy, and staying home because you feel sluggish and are actually full of sh*t. Here is a recap to make sure your body is gets the fuel it needs everyday:

Make your gut health a priority with GUT VITA

  • Meal plan

  • Have quick, healthy snacks on hand

  • Take vitamins/supplements (talk to you doctor about which ones are best for you)

  • Take a prebiotic/probiotic

  • Stay hydrated

Nourish and Flourish #2: Sleep

This one is so important! When our youngest daughter didn’t sleep for the first 4 months of her life, resulting in me not sleeping for 4 months.. y’all.. I was not a pleasant person. My body would quite literally shut down about once a week. I also have a brain that likes to open all the tabs in my mind all at once when I’m lying in bed. I have learned to prioritize a good nights sleep in order to function at my best the next day. For me, this looks like, getting off of screens, taking a warm shower, journaling to calm my mind, and talking to my husband about our plans for the next day so that I’m not staring at the ceiling in the middle of the night asking myself “wait, am I picking up the groceries or is he? and what time does my daughter’s basketball practice end?”. By talking through how tomorrow will look, it allows my mind to rest so I can rest. For you, bedtime routines may look different and that is totally fine. Try some different things, fine-tune them, and do what works best for you. The goal is to get a good nights sleep and wake up feeling well rested and ready to start the day. Here’s a few ideas you can implement before bed for a restful nights sleep:

  • Turn off screens an hour before bed

  • Journal or read a chapter in your book

  • Plan your day for tomorrow

  • Wash your face and do your nighttime skincare routine

  • Do a nighttime yoga routine

  • Do a guided bedtime meditation

  • Wear comfy pjs and get a soft, cozy blanket

  • Make sure your pillow and mattress are comfortable and supportive for your neck and back

Nourish and Flourish #3: Glow

It’s no secret that when we look good, we feel good. So why not adopt practices that help you to look and feel your best? I like to think of these as the “Big Three” in the Glow department of Nourish and Flourish; hair, skin, and nails. If you wake up and think “Ugh I’m having a bad hair day!”, then proceed to throw it on top of your head in a messy bun, what kind of tone does that tend to set for your day? Probably not a “I’m incredibly strong and beautiful and I’m going to rock today” kind of mindset. I’ll be the first to admit, I am lazy with my hair. I have thick, frizzy, naturally curly hair and doing all the fun and trendy hairstyles is not in my skill set. But when I make the conscious effort to fix my hair for the day, I feel more poised and put together. Investing in myself to feel my best automatically shifts my mindset, empowering me to approach the day with renewed vigor and confidence. The next thing I want you to focus on is your skin. A soft, moisturized, and glowing complexion instills a profound sense of confidence, uplifting the spirit and enhancing one's overall sense of self-assurance. What happens when we have a break out on our face? We tend to avoid getting too close to people, we pile on make up to cover it up. How would this change if you spent time each morning and evening investing in a good skincare routine? Would you proudly look people in the eyes because you are glowing on the outside, and more importantly glowing on the inside with a self-confidence that you only dreamed of when you were having constant breakouts? I have been prone to dark spots my whole life (thank you momma). I had a long dark spot over my upper lip that, from a distance, looked like I had a mustache! I was so self-conscious about my skin for so long. I have made my skin care routine a priority and because of this investment in myself, my skin literally and figuratively glows. The last of what I consider the “Big Three” is nails. There’s just something about fresh, manicured nails that makes you feel good. And when you look good, you feel good. Please don’t mistake me saying having your nails look good means that you have to pay big bucks every week at the nail salon. If you want to do that for yourself, go for it! I rarely go to the nail salon to have my nails professionally manicured, when I do it’s for a special occasion and I prefer my natural nails to false ones. But looking down at beautiful and colorful nails brings a smile to my face. It makes me feel pretty and put together. Whatever your preference for your nails, just make them look and feel good for you. Here are some more simple options to take care of your nails:

  • Take collagen supplement. I add THIS ONE to my coffee each morning!

  • Cut, file, and paint your nails at home

  • Use nail kits to get a budget-friendly professional look from home

  • Soak, then moisturize your hands and feet, and push cuticles back
